Classic Moon – Dusk
LAURENT FERRIER extends its celestial quest from a brand new perspective. After celebrating the depths of the night sky with the first Classic Moon models, the Maison now turns its attention to that moment when time seems to stand still, as the sky becomes one with the earth and the last reflections of daylight imbue the landscape with taupe, brown and golden hues. An atmosphere subtly captured by this new creation.
The sheen of a pebble
The Classic case features the iconic lines that have become synonymous with LAURENT FERRIER. Inspired by 19th century pocket watches, its pebble-shaped silhouette is distinguished by soft, balanced curves, with each polished surface creating a subtle play of light. Its delicately curved lugs naturally extend this fluidity and sit perfectly on the wrist. Finally, the generous ball-shaped crown, a signature of the Maison, offers intuitive
and comfortable operation.
A discreetly integrated corrector at 10 o’clock allows the day of the week to be adjusted using the stylus supplied with the watch, while a second corrector, positioned between 8 and 9 o’clock, adjusts the moon phases. The other functions, such as winding, time setting and date correction are performed directly via the crown.
For this new Série Atelier, the Classic case is crafted in yellow gold for the first time. More than simply a choice of precious metal, this warm tone provides the starting point for the entire composition. It inspires a colour palette in which taupe, chocolate and deep brown tones interact with the warmth of the gold, evoking that suspended moment when the sun’s last rays set the horizon ablaze, before giving way to night.
Between sky and earth
The dial features an opaline gradient finish, with a taupe centre that gently catches the light before gradually deepening to a rich brown towards the edge. This subtle transition evokes the moment when the last light of day slowly fades, allowing the sky to merge with the warm tones of the earth.
In this nuanced composition, each indication finds its natural place. The Roman numerals, paired with baton indexes, are finely transferred in white. Their brightness contrasts with the depth of the dial without ever disrupting its harmony. The minute track, rendered in a lighter taupe, subtly guides the eye around the hour circle, while the logo, in a chocolate tone, blends discreetly into the overall composition.
At 12 o’clock, the two bevelled day and month windows feature an opaline chocolate disc, against which the white lettering stands out clearly. Around the dial, the date numerals are rendered in pale yellow, punctuated by an ochre “31” marking the end of each monthly cycle.
This use of contrasting colours is not purely an aesthetic choice. By experimenting with contrasts between white, chocolate tones and golden accents, it brings delicate touches of light to the composition while preserving a fundamental principle dear to Laurent Ferrier: to ensure maximum readability, with each indication instantly and naturally distinguishable.
The same philosophy is reflected in the hands. The hours, minutes and small seconds are indicated by the iconic white gold Assegai-shaped hands, painted white to ensure an immediate reading of the time. The central date hand, meanwhile, is crafted in polished yellow gold. Its lustre naturally echoes the date numerals and the warmth of the case, while allowing the calendar function to be identified at a glance.
The moon at dusk
At the heart of the small seconds counter lies LAURENT FERRIER’s first moon phase complication. For this new Série Atelier, it takes on a fresh interpretation, echoing the warm atmosphere that pervades the entire timepiece.
The moon disc is crafted from gold sheen obsidian, a deep black stone that reveals subtle green, brown and golden reflections. It is first engraved to recreate the shapes of the moons and stars. The latter are then meticulously hand-painted and enhanced with white Super-LumiNova® before being fired at high temperature. After firing, subtle nuances are applied to give the celestial bodies depth and dimension, revealing the details of the lunar craters and the textured surfaces of the stars.
This night sky is crowned by a moon bridge crafted in anise-yellow aplique-à-jour enamel. A true feat of craftsmanship, this age-old technique involves creating a delicate lattice of translucent enamel without a metal base, allowing light to shine through the material. This transparency gives the bridge an almost ethereal lightness, as if it were suspended above the obsidian disc.
The moon phase display is integrated into the small seconds counter. A slender white-painted white gold baton hand indicates the seconds, while the “N” and “S” markers positioned between the indexes recall that the moon phases observed in the Northern Hemisphere are reversed compared with those visible in the Southern Hemisphere.
Timeless mechanics
This new Classic Moon retains the manual winding LF126.02 calibre, specially developed by LAURENT FERRIER to combine an annual calendar with a precision moon phase.
The annual calendar complication automatically distinguishes between 30- and 31-day months and advances to the first day of the following month on its own. Only one adjustment is required each year, on 1 March, to account for February’s varying length.
Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the manual winding calibre LF126.02 is equipped with a long-blade click inspired by the pocket watches of the last century. This iconic component, hand-polished and hand-rounded in the Maison’s workshops, produces a delicate clicking sound when winding, particularly appreciated by collectors.
All the components feature hand-finished decoration, in keeping with the purest traditions of watchmaking: bridges decorated with rhodium-plated Côtes de Genève, a circular-grained main plate, hand-bevelled and polished edges, hand-crafted interior angles and fully mirror-polished screw heads. These finishes, often reserved for the discerning eye of the collector and sometimes even invisible, embody LAURENT FERRIER’s unwavering respect for the traditions of HauteHorlogerie.
A limited edition
With this new Classic Moon, LAURENT FERRIER adds a new interpretation of its annual calendar moon phase complication to the Série Atelier collection. Conceived as a variation on one of the Maison’s iconic models, this creation embodies the freedom of expression offered by the Série Atelier, with each edition revealing a new personality while remaining true to the codes that define LAURENT FERRIER.
